Wimbledon Library will be transformed into a noisy hub of art, culture and music to launch new initiative, ‘Culture Blast’, in Merton on Sunday 13 October.

The free event takes place between 11am and 6pm with interactive activities for all the family. BBC 1Xtra mix champion DJ Bobfatt presents an aural history of hip-hop by; local boy DJ WrongTom will lecture on the history of Dub music while bringing a unique echo chamber to the library, and four film screenings around the history of street culture (including the Oscar-nominated Exit Through The Gift Shop), take place in the gallery upstairs.
With the help of artist Lauren Brown, visitors will be able to design their own custom made t-shirts if they bring a plain white t-shirt with them. For £35 they can also build a synthesiser with musician and instrument designer Sam Underwood.
Original Essex Rocker Parlee will be on hand to demonstrate street art styles for all willing participants. Nourishment comes from the Calcuttan street food provided by chef Asma Khan, and special literary guest star George Orwell will be on hand to guide visitors around the temporary installations.
Cabinet member for community and culture, Councillor Nick Draper said: “I love Wimbledon library, and I’m really excited that the Council’s brilliant arts team is hosting the Culture Blast there – it’ll be fun, noisy, and completely in tune with our wonderful Borough.
